Cultural life of Ganja

Ganja has played an important role in the development of Azerbaijani culture. Many world-famous scientists and poets were born and lived here


Famous figures of the city are Nizami Ganjavi (XII), one of the greatest poets of the Middle East, Mahsati Ganjavi (XII), a great Azerbaijani warrior of the Gajar dynasty, statesman, the last ruler of Ganja khanate Javad khan, composer Fikret Amirov (XX), geologist Mirali Gashgay (XX) and others.

There are a number of cultural monuments and museums in Ganja. A gallery of predecessors and successors of the Azerbaijani poet Nizami Ganjavi was created on both sides of the Ganja Fortress, on the first floors and in the underground passage. A monument to 26 prominent figures of Ganja has been erected here. On the right side of the museum, on the second floor, there is a museum of the military history of Ganja. An ethnographic museum has been established on the third floor of the fortress, which provides information about the life and culture of the Ganja people. Among the museums in Ganja is the Museum of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, Ganja Museum of History and Ethnography, Nizami Ganjavi's House Museum, Israfil Mammadov's House Museum, Mir Jalal Pashayev's House Museum, and others.

The most famous and largest park in Ganja is Khan Bagi. Khan's garden was built in 1700. The total area is 6 hectares. Khan Bagi is associated with the name of Ganja ruler Ziyad khan. There are more than 100 tree species and genera.

On March 3, 1979, the Heydar Aliyev Park was built in the Dry Gobu area of ​​Yeni Ganja residential area. The total area of ​​the park is more than 400 hectares. More than 350,000 trees and ornamental plants have been planted here.
