Ambil Lake Hiking Tour | Shabran, Azerbaijan Information

Near Zeyva village in Azerbaijan's Shabran region, Ambil Lake is a quiet destination for a short escape into nature. The lake lies at approximately 930 m above sea level and is reached through a combination of off-road driving and hiking. After reaching Zeyva, we change to local 4x4 vehicles and continue towards the forest. From the trailhead, a moderate 2.5 km hike takes us through woodland to Ambil Lake, where we have plenty of time to relax and enjoy the surroundings. We have a picnic lunch beside the lake and prepare Azerbaijani tea using a camping samovar. In the afternoon, we follow the same trail back and continue by off-road vehicle to Zeyva. Before returning to Baku, we stop in the nearby village of Kilvar to see its old church, adding a cultural element to this nature-focused day trip

Note: In rainy weather, the trail can become slippery, making the hike a bit challenging

Ambil lake forest hike & Kilvar village

We leave Baku in the morning and drive north towards the Shabran region. After reaching Zeyva village, we change to local off-road vehicles for the drive towards the forest and our hiking starting point. From here, we begin an easy hike through the forest towards Ambil Lake. After approximately 2.5 km, we reach the lake, hidden among the surrounding woodland at around 930 m above sea level. There is plenty of time at the lake to relax, explore the surroundings and enjoy a picnic lunch. We also prepare fresh Azerbaijani tea using a traditional camping samovar, making the long break by the lake an enjoyable part of the experience. In the afternoon, we hike back along the same route and return to Zeyva by off-road vehicle. Before heading back to Baku, we visit the historic Albanian church in nearby Kilvar village. We then continue to Baku, arriving in the evening.

Transport

Included Transportation

Private transportation is arranged according to group size, using a comfortable vehicle such as a Mitsubishi Pajero, Mercedes Vito or Mercedes Sprinter. In Zeyva village, we switch to local Lada Niva or GAZ66 4x4 vehicles for the off-road section to the hiking trail and back.
