  • Visit Deniz Mall, one of Baku’s largest shopping and entertainment centres, famous for its distinctive architecture inspired by the eight-pointed star featured on the national emblem and flag of Azerbaijan.
  • Explore Crescent Mall, one of Baku’s newest shopping and entertainment destinations, featuring an open-air terrace and Azerbaijan’s first musical fountain.

DAY2 DAY 2: BAKU – BLACK GOLD & THE LEGENDS OF THE OLD CITY

A Journey Through Baku’s Oil Heritage and Ancient Streets

At 10:00, departure for a sightseeing tour entitled:

“Black Gold of the Caspian & Legends of the Old City”

Our walking tour begins with fascinating stories about the magnificent mansions built by Azerbaijan’s wealthy oil barons during the oil boom of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Our first stop will be the impressive National Museum of Azerbaijani Literature named after Nizami Ganjavi, renowned for its beautiful façade decorated with blue majolica and sculptures dedicated to prominent Azerbaijani writers.

We will then continue along the historic streets of central Baku and admire the magnificent Ismailiyya Palace, built between 1908 and 1913 by architect Józef Ploško at the request of oil magnate Musa Naghiyev in memory of his son Ismail. Today, the building houses the Presidium of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences.

Next, we will see the historic building of the former Alexandriinsky Muslim Women's School, established in 1901 and regarded as one of the pioneering educational institutions for Muslim women in the Caucasus. Its construction was supported by the famous Azerbaijani oil magnate and philanthropist Haji Zeynalabdin Taghiyev.

We will then make a short stop near the magnificent Palace of Happiness, also known as the Wedding Palace. Built in an elegant Neo-Gothic style in 1912, the building is associated with the romantic story of its original owner, another prominent oil baron, Murtuza Mukhtarov.

Our route continues to the historic Baku City Duma building, commonly known as Baksovet, built in the Baroque style between 1900 and 1904. Today, the building serves as Baku City Hall.

We will then enter the beautiful Philharmonic Garden, formerly known as the Governor’s Garden, and admire the Azerbaijan State Academic Philharmonic Hall named after Muslim Magomayev. The building combines an Italian Renaissance-style façade with elegant German Rococo-inspired interiors.

Icherisheher – The Old City

From the Philharmonic Garden, we enter the historic heart of Baku – Icherisheher, also known as the Old City or “Fortress”.

Stepping through its ancient gates feels like travelling back in time, from modern Baku to the medieval city of the 12th century.

Icherisheher is one of Azerbaijan’s most important historical and architectural treasures. Archaeological discoveries have revealed evidence of settlements dating back to ancient times.

The Old City is home to some of Baku’s most iconic landmarks, including the Maiden Tower and the magnificent Palace of the Shirvanshahs. During the tour, these monuments will be viewed from the exterior.

We will also discover the historic Multani and Bukhara Caravanserais, ancient mosques, minarets, traditional bathhouses and charming narrow streets.

Guests will have time to explore the traditional souvenir shops of the Old City, where they can find Azerbaijani handicrafts, national clothing, scarves, traditional hats, handmade ceramics and carpets.

Baku & Soviet Cinema

For guests who grew up in the former Soviet Union, Baku also offers a fascinating connection with Soviet cinema.

Fans of the famous movie “The Diamond Arm” may recognize several locations where the film was shot, including the streets and surroundings of the Old City. Other Soviet films, including “The Last Inch,” “Man from the Land of Green,” “Aybolit-66” and “Tehran-43,” were also filmed in Baku.

Lunch in the Old City

At the end of the walking tour, enjoy a delicious traditional Azerbaijani lunch at a cosy restaurant in the Old City.

Set in an authentic atmosphere, the restaurant offers guests the opportunity to discover local cuisine and experience the famous hospitality of Azerbaijan.

Little Venice

After lunch, we will enjoy a relaxing walk through Little Venice, a charming attraction located on Baku Boulevard and inspired by the romantic atmosphere of Venice.

Its small turquoise-water canals, elegant bridges and traditional boats create a unique atmosphere in the heart of modern Baku.

Guests can enjoy a gondola ride, take memorable photographs and relax while discovering one of the most romantic corners of the city.
