Tour to Sheki - Azerbaijan Information

Sheki a clean, well-kept town with recognizable architecture, red roofing shingles -looks more like a typical European provincial locality than an eastern city.

Sheki people are very hospitable and cheerful by nature, and local humor has become the hallmark of this land. The city is  twinned with the famous Bulgarian Gabrovo. And in 1983 for the first time in Sheki was held the "Feast of laughter."Archaeological evidence suggests that the city can be considered one of the oldest settlements in the Caucasus, many finds on this territory are over 2500 years old. 

The city has preserved many historical and architectural attractions, a special place among which takes the majestic palace of the Sheki khans of  XVII century, built  without a single nail with luxurious wall paintings and openwork windows in a stone citadel. Moreover,  the Albanian temple located near the city of Kish, the Gelersen-Gorersen fortress (VIII-IX centuries), numerous caravanserais, the Shekikhanov’s house, the Juma mosque (XVIII century), the minaret of the Gileilino mosque (XVIII century), and medieval baths is interesting places also for visiting. Sheki is a major craft center. Here you can buy jewelry and engraved products of local craftsmen. Sheki has its own theater, historical museum, house-museum of the Azerbaijani writer and philosopher M.F.Akhundov. Sites on the way to Sheki for an additional fee (upon request and optional time)
